Creative Problem Solving #2

So a while back i mentioned that i was doing a bit of creative problem solving...
Well i haven't stopped!

Problem 2: Boredom & Losing pens all the time (because they don't have a place).
Pens get 'misplaced' in our house.
Pens disappear in our house.
Pens are eventually found in random (unusual) places in our house.
And i was bored during family week-planning Sunday night...
And Bek had just eaten a kinder suprise...
And this is what happened:

It's a pen holder made from half of the plastic egg that comes from inside a kinder suprise (it usually has a toy you can make inside it), sticky notes, and whiteboard marker pens.
That one pen now has a place.
Problem solved.

End of Another Uni Semester

Well THANK HEAVENS that's all OVER!
That was perhaps the most intense semester of uni for me ever.
3 assignments and 1 exam all due on the last day of semester (today)!!

This is what that looks like...:

It's all over now. I've submitted my assignments (much earlier than this week) and just moments ago, completed the exam.
Feeling confident and very very relieved.
Time to unwind by cranking the music and cleaning up this neglected home ;-)

Creative Problem Solving ..

To jolt my brain out of mind-numbing assignment writing mode, i've begun exercising the right side of my brain with some creative problem-solving!

Problem 1: The hubby's catalogue fettish.
Anthony LOVES catalogues.
And catalogues love him.
Seriously. We get a catalogue for nearly every big business in Launceston!
Anyway, so unfortuately the catalogues get left on the floor, table, couch...
Here's how i dealt with it this week:

Ah. What a pretty way to get rid of 4 full catalogues!

Stay tuned for more creative solutions ;)

A Winner Mud Cake!

Ok, let's set the scene:

Last minute only hours before Father's Day, you're asked to bring a cake to the family father's day gathering.
You look in the cupboard and find NO packet cakes, or deserts of any kind! And you can't just bring a woolies cake (although they taste amazing and they're a winner for everyone) because it's Father's Day - you've gotta show some sort of effort...

You begin to panic.

Well Anthony and I found ourselves in this situation not very long ago.
Here's how to make an awesome last-minute cake that Dad will appreciate and everyone will LOVE!

STEP 1: Run to Woolies and buy 2 delicious mud cakes, betty crocker icing, some icng writing and sprinkles!

STEP 2: Hack up the top of one of the cakes. (This will make sense in the following step...)
STEP 3: Smoosh the other cake on top. You may need to give it a bit of a twist and a wiggle so it sticks to the icing on the bottom cake.

STEP 4: Trim off overhanging bits. Use these bits to plug any gaps.

STEP 5: Cover it, really thickly, with the Betty Crocker Icing. This way no-one will recognise what the cake is actually made of!

STEP 6: Decorate!

And that's how it's done! ;)

"I can't stop looking at myself!" kind of makeover!

Saturday i had the day off work so Zoe (cousin) and Alisha (sister) came over to play and stay the night. During the day we went to Tamar Island, which was alot of fun, interesting, and allowed me to plan for an assignment about excursions in local settings.

ANYWAYS..... At night we had a make-over party. I dolled up the girls and we took glamour shots:

Zoe's makeover shots.

Alisha's makeover shots.

I gave zoe a mirror so she could see what i'd done and i didn't get it back til bed time! She ran all over the house repeatedly saying, "Oh i just can't stop looking at myself - i'm so pretty/ beautiful!". It was hilarious!

Alisha looked gorgeous too, she was grinning the entire time!
If you want to see the runway modelling the girls did after their makeovers see Bekah's Blog> 'Runway'. There's a video of it.

The Exquisite Corpse

No... this post is not about an amazng dead person's body!!

Exquisite Corpse is what sparked off the surrealist movement in art history. [You know that famous painting of the melting clocks? Thats surrealism]. It began with a group of eccentric men doodling in the underground art scene. Have you ever played the game where someone begins a story, folds the paper over and the next prson continues writing the story and by the end, when you unfold the paper, you have a ridiculously hilarious nonsense story?? Well Exquisite Corpse is just like that only instead of writing a story, you're drawing a picture.

Anyways... So after learning about this is my art tutorial, i went home and played the game with Bekah.
Here's what we came up with, against what the surrealists came up with:

What Bek and I Drew

What the Surrealists Drew

Pretty freaky huh?
Hehe, I think Bek and I were definately surrealists once upon a time :P

Dan's 18th Masquerade Party

Friday 11th was Dan's 18th Birthday Party.
It was themed: "Masquerade"... However, due to safety reasons, we weren't allowed to actually wear masks.
This meant that we all had to get creative with our costumes. I love a creative challenge, and what better challenge than to create a costume for a masquerade party without a mask!?
Leia and Bekah came over to my place to get ready. Here's what we came up with:

And my handsome hubby wore a hat instead of a mask. He looked very dashing ;)
Great Birthday Party. Great Theme. Great Company. A Great way to celebrate the birthday of a great guy!

In the Spirit of Easter

The Devonport Relief Society showed this video on Sunday.
I couldn't help but feel touched as i watched and listened.
In the true spirit of easter i'd like to say: I am truly grateful for the knowledge and testimony i have of my Saviour, brother and friend - Jesus.

Beautiful, isn't it?

Also, today i've been brushing up on my photo editing skills and exploring some photoshop tutorials. I created this pic using lighting effects, collage process and blending options...
...Again, it's easter themed...

A New Project...

... So I bet you're wondering what "a new project" is all about.
WELL...

J.W. Portrait Art is a new blog site I've created as a 'project'.
(It's more like a hobby that'll earn me a little $$)
The idea behind it is, you give me a photo you'd like to have drawn/ painted and I do it for you :) Simple.
YOU, my fellow friends, family, and acquaintances, are all free to browse the site and email me :)

If clicking on the link to it above in the text, copy and paste the link below:
